Women’s Night Running

I get it. I am not your usual thin, svelte, gazelle like long distance runner and MOST days, I am ok with that (yeah, some days I really am not….).I have crossed the line at events in the very last handful of runners or in dead last more times than not and believe me the back, back, back of the pack is where the party is – it is also where often the most relaxed life loving people are...

It’s 0100 h the morning after the race, the only muscles that still work are my fingers, my digestive system is in overdrive and I’m not even close to sleeping. So what other option is there except write a race report??Prerace: Changing it upGoing into the race, I was dead set certain that I wanted a Kona slot. That was what this race was about – it was what kept...

The Road to an Ultra

In my head I have written this post a thousand times (generally on each long run), but this is actually the first time I have sat myself down and put words on the screen.I remember that feeling last year of achieving my very first Marathon and the complete and utter exhilaration in getting it done. The weeks and months of training, the hundreds of thousands of steps that lead to that point, the heartache the voices in my head wanting me to quit. The...

Marathon Madness

Ok, you know me enough by now to know that I am a seriously crap liar….I’m going to level with you here… seeing the “M” word laid out in my run plan terrified me, in fact it pretty much made me poop my pants (every runners nightmare I know….). It is a far less scary word when it is accompanied by another one starting with “H”. Ironically, I read that and remember a little too clearly when that combination of words terrified me as...

The Year That Was

2017 was a year of amazing learning and realisations for me and the beginning of friendships that I know will last forever with some amazing people that are now considered family. In 2017 I learnt that my legs, body and mind can run again. My own two feet can recover and run the distances that they were before anklegate and I now feel stronger than before. I learnt that I can train smarter and it’s ok to seek guidance, advice and help in your training.In...

Summer Training

Tonight, in Melbourne it is a very balmy 35 degrees, or at least when I went for my run tonight at 6.30pm it was, the mercury is currently hovering around 29…. It makes for an interesting training session. On the plan for me tonight was a 70-minute hilly trail or road set. I had my route relatively planned out, I was going to do a very similar route that I completed a couple of weeks ago in the same time set (notice that right here...

An honest look at inner turmoil…..

As I sit to write this post I wonder how many of its readers will relate and how many will just fob it off? That is a rhetorical question, but it is one of the many thoughts running through my brain at the moment. There was a new addition in my last four week training plan that my amazing coach provided me and it is one of those things that fills a lot of us with dread…. To my horror and astonishment there in big letters...
