Let’s face it chafing really does suck – sometimes at the time, it happens and especially in the shower afterwards! We all know that face you make when the water and sweat combine and hit all those spots you had no idea you had chafed in. We affectionally call it Shower Chafe-Face but it is not fun at all!

So, we have a short little guide on our top 5 tips to prevent chafing and hot spots on your skin and most sensitive areas while you train.

Tip 1: Keep your skin as dry and cool as possible – moisture and sweat can really be your skin’s enemy. Sweat contains minerals that can seriously irritate your skin and cause aggravation when things move against it. Plus sweat and moisture (think things like rain) can cause your kit to stick to you in ways it shouldn’t which when you are moving which can ultimately cut and rub into your skin and cause chafing. Moisture-wicking kit and skin barrier protection will be your skins best friends to stop moisture irritation.

Tip 2: Wear properly fitting kit – You want a goldilocks fit here! You don’t want kit that is too baggy and big that has extra fabric to rub against you and you don’t want kit that is too small that will cut into you and rub against your skin. Need a kit upgrade? See our full run clothing range.

Tip 3: Wear socks that are moisture-wicking too – A LOT of people forget all about their feet when it comes to preventing skin issues. You want to protect your skin with moisture-wicking socks to stop hot spots and blisters from starting. Additionally, an awesome foot powder like DUST will be your feet and shoes best friends helping to keep your feet dry and protected.

Tip 4: Keep your body hair under control – Yep be neat and groomed! The more trimmed and manicured you are the less friction on your skin to cause issues. We do have one caveat here!!! If you are doing Ultra distances you may want to consider letting it all, be natural to stop issues with ingrown hairs and additional chafing – it’s a fine line (hahaha pun intended I guess) find what works best for you and your skin.

Tip 5: Protect your skin with an awesome skin barrier – Use an awesome Anti-Chafing or Anti-Blister product to protect your skin stop the problems before they start!
